Friends helping Friends

Meet Steve and Ginger, long term, RV, residents at Lone Oak (and hear their unique story).

History has shown me that my time spent on property doing physical labor is just as valuable as my time in the office each day. (Leaders, take note.) Too much time sitting at a desk, inside, and with limited blood flow to our bodies leaves us with lower brain function, feeling lethargic, and sometimes, even a little cranky (what?!?!?!). My personal reward after a certain amount of progress at my desk is time outside.

The value of exercise, sunlight, some sweat, and advancing a physical project through manual labor is motivating. And I believe it's just as good for my children to see and do as well.

The sunny afternoon I met Steve and Ginger, I was attaching a trailer full of pea gravel to a truck. They pulled in, unannounced, stopped their truck near me, and asked if I needed help. I smiled. And so did they.

After a few laughs, I asked if I could help them. It was then that they shared their desire to find a quiet place to park their RV, stay awhile and relax. They moved in a few weeks later.

A month after their arrival, Steve asked Charlie, our INHOUSE, CERTIFIED, RV GURU about a small issue in the way their RV was functioning. Charlie discovered the problem was with a $10 part that needed replacing. The part was ordered, but the RV wouldn’t be functioning at 100% until the part was replaced.

Que Superman music…Lone Oak with a solution. Provide Steve and Ginger one of our onsite, individually themed, hotel rooms only a few yards from their RV for a few nights. Allow the part to arrive. Replace the part. Get them back in their RV.

The plan was seamless. The cost was limited. We all rested easily. And everyone won.

Our goal to become the most accommodating, peaceful, family-oriented RV campground in the state of Texas is becoming a reality. By incorporating our hotel rooms, guest homes, animal farm, covered activity areas, storm shelter, food service, hiking trails, fishing ponds, pool and community groups and gatherings, and now RV RENTALS,  the Lone Oak experience is second to none.

Thank you, Steve and Ginger, for the tremendous value you bring to the Lone Oak community, as well as for allowing us to serve you in the way our mission calls us to serve.

Remain encouraged,

Brian

Some of the best conversations I’ve ever had happen while walking. When we slow down, we open up. The things Eli shares reminds me that wisdom doesn’t always come with age. Sometimes it comes from stillness, curiosity, and a child’s honest heart.

Children are desperate to know they make us proud. Perhaps even more importantly, we as parents should be acting in ways that allow OUR CHILDREN SHOULD BE DESPERATE to make us proud.

TRUTH: Our priorities get neglected when our decisions are made in the moment—without attention to our values. And in those moments, the real driver often becomes FEAR.

“Just remember them,” I heard the voice inside of me say. Recalling the value they shared, the joy they spread—seemed to be the best way.

Just before heading off to showers, Luke looked at me with a sense of seriousness and gratitude, "Arguably, Dad, the best day of my life. Thanks."

The truth is, it’s not just kids or adults, employees or employers, religious, nonreligious, white, black or blue...It’s all of us. We all face fear—sometimes in fleeting moments, sometimes all day, all week, or all month long. So what do we do with it?

The truth? He’s out to separate you from yourself—pin you apart with fear and insecurity. The moment you move toward the truth, his grip will loosen.

It was real. Everything felt different. The smallest things mattered. A simple walk, a bird’s song, a wave, a smile, a leaf blowing was now important.
